Malaysia

Langkah Syabas Resort is where we stayed, it was a cool place but kind of outside of Kota Kinabalu town, so we had to catch a "bas mini" which does take 25 mins

The day after we arrived we flew across Sabah to Sandikan to the Sepilok Orangutan Reahabilitation Center.

This is Mt Kinabalu - I am standing at around 1km a.s.l. and the mountain is 4095m, so we only have 3km vertical left. We started climbing at 10am and after trekking 6km reached our destination, Laban Rata, at 3pm.

At 2:30am we started out for the summit, with the aid of rope here and there we reached the summit at 5:00am awaiting the sunrise. An hour or so later we were on our way back down, all the way down!

Once back at our resort, we spent the next day in pain! and thankfully it was raining so we weren't missing out on anything. We spent the day in Kota Kinabalu city centre, strolling around town and through shopping centres. In the evening we ate at the local street markets, indulging in local culinary treats.
Our next adventurous activity was white water rafting down the Padas river. Unfortunately we don't have any photos. We spent an 1 1/2hr on a train from 1886 (probably wasn't renewed once the Brits left), with the locals and their recent purchases (chickens, ducks etc..)
We were the only two in our group so our guide arranged for two other guides to join our raft, which allowed us to all muck around and throw each other out, and not have to worry that someone one the raft was freaking out! We even had the opportunity of swimming down some minor rapids. To make things a little more exciting we then tried to capsize our raft....which just wouldn't budge, so we pushed each other in!
After lunch we had to board the train for another 1 1/2hr back to Beaufort.

On Thursday, we flew to KL and stayed at the Dorsett Regency...we decided that we deserved some uptown treatment, and coincidently this was in the shopping area (nice one Nina).
In KL we didn't do too much sightseeing except for the Patronas towers, Merdeka Square, Little India and Chinatown. It is a very cool town with lots of happening. The first night we spent hanging out in the park behind Patronas, on the other we went to the bars (which are quite expansive actually), we got stuck in the rain and since we visited all the bars accessible by foot we decided to catch a cab home, luckily the taxi driver suggested some clubs in another part of town and so we ended up partying the night away...

Overall, Malaysia was great, it is a country with so much to do and a very interesting/diverse society. I would even go as far as saying that we liked it more then Thai.
We gotta go back some time
